I can't wait for this first issue of IDOLIZED to hit the stands.  We've been working on this series for what feels like years.  Actually, it doesn't just FEEL like years - it actually has been at least 2 years since I first pitched the series to the fine folks at Aspen.  Now, I'm looking forward to actually having IDOLIZED make it's way into the world.  I'm very proud of this zero issue in particular, and am certainly excited to hear what you all think of it when it hits the stands on June 27th.  In the meantime, check out these great covers.  Enjoy!

Over the last several weeks, the fine folks at Aspen Comics have been giving their fans a chance to actually help create their comics, as readers got the chance to vote on the look of each of the characters in IDOLIZED.  I'm happy to say that literally thousands of votes were cast, many of the races were incredibly close, and the winning designs have now all been revealed.
For each character, “IDOLIZED” artist Micah Gunnell gave Aspen and me three different ‘looks’ to choose from. But for this series, instead of having us select among the looks, Aspen decided to open it up to the fans, and let them decide.

Attached here are the winning looks, for your viewing pleasure. Plus, of course, there's our main character, Joule, who you can see in one of the posts below.

“IDOLIZED” is Aspen's first-ever superhero series.  It tells the story of girl with super-powers and a dark past, who seeks revenge, and ultimately finds redemption, over the course of competing in a televised super-hero competition show.  Essentially, it’s “True Grit” meets “American Idol”…with capes.

We have some even bigger IDOLIZED events happening in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned, and, if you haven’t already, make sure to “like” the IDOLIZED page at in order to hear the news first, before anywhere else!

Admittedly, I've been a bit lax in posting here, but it's just because I've been hard at work on my upcoming creator-owned series "IDOLIZED".  Here's some info about it:

“IDOLIZED” tells the story of girl with super-powers and a dark past, who seeks revenge, and ultimately finds redemption, over the course of competing in a televised super-hero competition show. Essentially, it’s “True Grit” meets “American Idol”…with capes.   The series is written by yours truly, with explosive art by Micah Gunnell ( and colors by David Curiel ( It will debut in early 2012 from ASPEN COMICS.

I'm completely psyched to be working with Micah.  He and I have been talking about working together since I first saw his work in (ironically enough, given the subject matter of IDOLIZED) the Comic Book Idol artist contest.  And if you've seen the way David Curiel colored Micah's work on Executive Assistant, then you have a sense of just how mind-blowingly spectacular IDOLIZED is going to look.  Honestly, it's still shocking to me that Micah hasn't yet become known as one of the top-name artists in the industry, but hopefully this series will help launch him into the stratosphere.

The biggest news with respect to IDOLIZED, though, is that we're about to do something pretty exciting and (as far as I know) unprecedented on the IDOLIZED Facebook page at  Can't say much more than that yet, but if you "like" the page today, you may get a sneak preview showing up in your FB feed late tonight...

At long last, FATHOM: BLUE DESCENT #3 is at the printers.  It should be in stores on August 24th.  There are lots of HUGE revelations in this issue that should please (or, at least, intrigue) long-time FATHOM fans.

Here are all 3 covers:  cover A by Alex Sanchez, cover B by Nick Bradshaw, and the ultra-rare AspenStore.Com exclusive cover C by Michael Turner.

I'll be at the Long Beach Comic-Con This Weekend

This weekend is the big Long Beach Comic Con.  I'll be on 2 panels: a Writer's Workshop panel on Friday at 5PM, and the Official Aspen Panel on Saturday at 5.  Plus, I'll be signing comics in the Aspen booth on Sunday.  If you happen to be nearby, come on down and say "howdy".

Wow! Seriously?

Apparently, Fathom: Blue Descent #1 was the top-selling independent comic book in September, based on retailer orders!
